Cappadocia Guide: When to Go and How Many Days You Need

Why Cappadocia?

Cappadocia in central Türkiye is known for its fairy chimneys, colourful valleys and homes carved into rock, and it is one of the most requested destinations thanks to sunrise balloons and cave hotels.

Getting there from Istanbul

The easiest way is a domestic flight from Istanbul to Kayseri or Nevşehir, about an hour and a quarter, then 30 to 60 minutes by road to Göreme or Ürgüp.

How many days?

Two to three days suit most visitors: one day for the Red Valley and fairy chimneys, one for the Green Valley, Uçhisar and Pigeon Valley, and a morning for a balloon flight if you want one.

Best time to visit

Spring and autumn are the most pleasant. Summer is warm and busy, and winter is cold with occasional snow. Balloon flights depend on the weather and can be cancelled in wind.

Is the balloon worth it?

For many visitors the sunrise balloon is the highlight. Book it ahead and plan it for your first morning, so a second morning is available if the weather cancels the flight.
